Earlham College requires the use of VPN for off-campus access to College-hosted information systems that contain Restricted and Private data including Banner, Argos, the G Drive, and additional resources.

Please Note: The install will require administrative privileges to complete. When prompted, contact the Help Desk for assistance at: Contact Us

Installing VPN

  1. To download the VPN client, access https://vpn.earlham.edu

  2. Enter with your Earlham username and password, select Connect in the dropdown box and click Go.

  3. Select the link “click here to continue” to download the client to your computer.

  4. The file will appear in your Downloads folder or your default download location.

  5. Locate the file called openvpn-connect.msi and select it to run the installation. For Macs you may need to Control-click the app icon, then choose Open from the shortcut menu.

  6. Please Note: The install will require administrative privileges to complete. When prompted, contact the Help Desk for assistance.

  7. When the install is completed, an icon for OpenVPN Connect should appear on your desktop.

Connecting to VPN

  1. Select the OpenVPN Connect icon on your desktop or search for the program on your computer.

  2. The OpenVPN login will appear. Enter your Earlham username and password. Click Connect.

    Please Note: The first time you connect it will ask about running scripts. Please select yes when prompted.

  3. You will receive a confirmation message that the OpenVPN has connected to vpn.earlham.edu and an orange icon with a green check mark will appear in your icon bar.

Disconnecting from VPN

  1. To disconnect from OpenVPN, locate the orange icon with a green check mark in your icon bar.

  2. Right click the icon and select Disconnect vpn.earlham.edu

  3. You will receive a confirmation that vpn.earlham.edu is disconnected and an orange icon with an x will appear in your icon bar.
